Artist Statement
I embody the art of “the
tease”. I create images to play off the viewers mind. To keep them
guessing, “Was this planned?,” or “Could it have been a moment captured in
time?”
Using a Polaroid camera helps to develop the mystique of whether or not
these images were fabricated or as instant as the film they were taken with.
Gender, Fashion, Music, and the ideas of the “new youth” in society birth a
wealth of material for me to define myself as a female and an artist. I reject sexual
boundaries, to allow myself to play on and find the humor in sexuality.
The images explain the nature of humans as sexual beings visually. My
theory is, photographs can be as classic as a Chanel suit and a Beatles LP or as
modern as nylon baseball cap and a plastic toothbrush. The moments I
capture become timeless, where as one could associate an object with a
certain time, the backdrop could convey a completely different story.
Fascinated, I see
things as a child would, as if I’m seeing them for the first time. I make
photographs so as to be able to feel that nostalgia every time I look at them.
